typically the first noticable thing about nico is how quiet he is. nicolai is remarkably shy when it comes to new people, or anyone he doesn't know or isn't familiar with. he doesn't open up very easily and he's very cautious and careful. he's very guarded, and usually the first impression is that he's sort of a bad boy. but really, he's just shy. he's kind of awkward and not very talented when it comes to just having a normal conversation. socially challenged? a bit. nico is the type of guy that has a really close group of friends, and he won't really talk to much of anyone outside of that. some might think that he's stuck up because of this, but he's really not, he's just really nervous and neurotic when it comes to meeting new people, or just trying to talk to someone he doesn't know. he's shy -- that's the best way to put it.
from a young age, it was pretty apparent that nico would be one of those artistic guys. he'll draw, paint, write, pretty much anything to express himself, since he can't really do it through words. he's definitely musically inclined, and he loves to play guitar and sing. or really anything that has to do with music, he loves it. it's what he wants to do with his life, pretty much, and he's a heck of a songwriter if he put his head to it. he's very creative and independent, and also pretty intelligent. if his art or music can't get him anywhere, his head sure will be able to. he's not exactly a genius or anything, but he's just got a weird knack with remembering things, or something. really, if he put his head to anything, he'd probably be able to do it. he's a smart guy, but the type that doesn't give himself enough credit.
nico is one of those guys with questionable self-esteem, but is still terribly optimistic and upbeat about mostly anything, anyway. he always tries looking on the bright side of things and kind of tries to avoid negativity or anything that could be a bad influence. he doesn't want to get back into drugs again even though... he kind of already is. he's happy, though, and all of this optimism and happiness is sort of a trade off for pessimism and anger. he changed pretty dramatically after he met peyton, and even though she isn't around any more, he still tries to keep a smile on his face. when it comes to his friends, nico is extremely loyal, and loves to make people smile. he's witty and a pretty funny guy, in his own strange, sort of nerdy and dorky way. he wants to make people that he loves happy, and doesn't want to let them down.
nico is a listener. a great listener, at that, and he pretty much always wants to help people out. as long as they're within his circle of friends, of course, because he'd just feel a little weird if some stranger came up to him and started pouring out their life issues. he's caring and sweet, and usually very understanding. he knows when to leave stuff alone, and usually he'll take a serious situation and turn it into a (hopefully tasteful) joke. he's a gentle guy, sort of perceived as a pushover, but he could really care less. the whole badboy thing just really isn't him, at all. he won't take a lot of shit from people, though, and he'll stand up for his friends if he feels like he has to. he can be a little pugnacious, stubborn and hot headed at times, but it's only because nico is really protective of people he loves and cares about.

really, nico just has infinite amounts of half siblings cause his dad couldn't really keep it in his pants.

- - - - overall history, nicolai kingston finn wasn't born into one of those picture perfect families. far from it, actually. his parents weren't deeply in love -- in fact, they could hardly stand each other -- and in all honesty, nico was just the result of a one night stand gone bad. he was born on february first, and lived with his mom until he was about five. nico doesn't have a whole lot of memories of his mother, but the ones he does have a pretty fond ones. to this day he still can't understand why someone like her would want anything to do with his dad, but maybe it's just one of those things that will never really make sense. when he was around six, his aunt died and his mom took it pretty hard. she sort of went off the deep end would lose her temper with nico a lot, so the state decided to place him under the care of his father. he hasn't seen his mom since then.
growing up with his father was a lot worse. apparently, his dad didn't even know nico existed until then, and when nico moved in, he had to squeeze in between a lot of half siblings. there was atleast six or seven of them, and they were all pissed off about something. nico was the quiet one, for the most part. he was exposed to some pretty bad things growing up, and he started to get involved with the wrong crowd at a pretty early age. he got into drugs, then quit, then got back into them. he didn't really have that great of examples to look up to, so he didn't know any better. he would get into fights and cause problems at school, and in the end he turned out just as pissed off about everything -- just like the rest of his siblings. a lot of the anger was directed as his father, for various reasons.
nico took a liking to music and art from a young age, and it only developed as he got older. he has a good head on his shoulders, he just doesn't really use it properly. being one of those unnaturally talented and smart kids, nico took a test and qualified to go to brookwell high in new york, a pretty presigious school. nico really could've cared less about the glamour of it, he just wanted to get out of the house. and his dad was happy to get rid of him. the first few days were a little weird for nico, and he got into trouble a lot and in general just pissed a lot of teachers and students off. every one seemed stuck up to him, but at brookwell he met a girl named peyton that completely changed his life. he fell for her, hard. he was in love with her and changed completely for her, and even asked her to marry him. nico obviously was thrilled about this.
but when they were still engaged he ended up getting high and trying to make peyton sleep with him, which only upset her. a lot. the two of them broke up, and nico was pretty much devastated. he decided to leave for canada, and before he did he caught his half-brother kissing her. yeah, so basically nico just has a lot of pent up anger about a lot of different things. now that he's here in canada he's just trying to clear his head and graduate, and hoping that it'll somehow all fall into place.
